Beaver Builder 1.9 Updates Released
Nested Columns, Lightbox from a Button, Responsive Improvements, and more...
I'm thrilled to announce that Beaver Builder 1.9 (the Shasta release) is now live! Coined from the gorgeous Shasta Dam in California. Shasta brings the #1, most-requested feature to Beaver Builder: columns in columns (CinC). Some of you designers may also think of it as Row in Row, and some of you might not know what the heck I'm talking about. But by whatever name you want to call it, CinC is huge and will gave you a lot of flexibility that you didn't have before (even with Beaver Builder.) Along with CinC, a revamped editor is introduced with more accurate dragging and dropping, the ability to drag and rearrange columns, responsive settings for margins and paddings, new templates, and a whole lot more! Plus, a cool new feature is the ability to display content (text, image, or video) in a lightbox directly from a button. How cool is that!?
First, Justin from Beaver Builder put together a little screencast highlighting some of the many changes. Watch it as its a nice overview of the CinC and new column editing capabilities..
Introducing Parent and Child Columns
If you’re wondering what “columns in columns” actually means, don’t worry. It’s a bit difficult to wrap one’s head around without a visual example.

It’s always been possible to have, for example, an image in one column and text in another, but notice the teal and green squares underneath the text blurb—this layout has never been possible without some CSS trickery.
As mentioned, CinC has been one of the most-requested features since Beaver Builder first launched. Although a popular request, it took a long time to implement CinC because it's hard and it's also difficult to pull off in an elegant way. But the folks at Beaver Builder did it and it's one of the reasons I love working with this platform. As you can see in the video above, they finally worked out the kinks with a “parent” and “child” column dynamic that they are extremely proud of.
Draggable Columns
Another big request has been the ability to duplicate and drag columns, similar to how it’s possible with individual modules. Well, that's now here also with the release of Beaver Builder 1.9.
In order to pull off draggable and parent/child columns, and keep menus and such uncluttered, a slick new UI feature is in BB 1.9. In this release you can drag a column (and when available, a parent column) right from the column settings menu.

On the left is a standard column menu and on the right is a child column menu. On the example to the right, notice that you can edit settings or move both the child and the parent by clicking and dragging right from the menu.
This is a great innovation and helps keep the user interface unclutter but still provide added functionality. Along with some major improvements to the drag and drop accuracy, it makes for a very fluid building experience. Of course, you shouldn’t just take our word for it. Give it a shot.
New Content Page Templates

In Gordon (v1.8), BeaverBuilder introduced several new landing page templates. In Shasta, they've given some love to content page templates. Landing pages are, presumably, the first page a visitor sees when they get to your site (think homepages). Content pages are the inner pages of a site, like an about, contact, or pricing page.
There are 12 new content page templates available in 1.9 each with a fresh, minimalist design. These templates are a great starting place to kickstart your creativity or a ready-to-go design that just needs some minor tweaks before going live.
Getting a Little More Geeky... Responsive Margins, Paddings, and Borders
From day one, BeaverBuilder layouts have always been responsive and now they've introduced a feature to make it much easier to build for smaller screens.
In Shasta, you can now adjust margins, padding, and border sizes depending on the size of the device. The way this is managed in BB 1.9 is much nicer than in previous releases and it will help you make sure that your website looks great on desktops, tablets, and phones.
Open a Lightbox from a Button
Last but not least, the ability to generate a lightbox pop-up from a button or image was added to BeaverBuilder. You know what lightboxes are, right? They are the cool popup overlays that show over the top of whatever else is on the screen, while the background usually gets fuzzed out or something.
So now there’s a new Click Action setting in the button module that adds a lightbox option along with the option to open a URL And guess what... you’ll be able to add a custom text, HTML (include shortcodes), or a video and that content will automatically display in a lightbox when the button is clicked. Pretty sweet! From a pure content contributor perspective, I think this might even rival CinC as the cool feature.
If you have your website through us then you should already have this new release on your website. Go ahead, see what you can do with it! I would love to see it.
